Pictures with Taste: 'Colour Chart
This is the first sample colour chart I used to experiment with herbs and spices as a paint medium. The pigments from standard kitchen spices are simply mixed with school glue or clear acrylic paint. Initially, I found it somewhat disappointing that the colour tones changed in the first few weeks. However, I came to realize that this maturing aspect is similar to the aging process in winemaking.
From this realization, I developed two different styles and incorporated them into my work. First, I create artworks using only wine and spices, embracing the natural maturing effects. Second, I enhance colourful vibrancy by combining acrylic paint with natural ingredients.
"Pictures with Taste"
Horst, the wine and food chef embarks on a flavorful adventure, he is crafting inspiring food and wine art. Cooking with wine is an art form in itself, but Horst takes it to the next level. Aromatics are delicately brushed onto the canvas, creating a feast for the eyes arranged with artistic precision. The kitchen is transformed into a gallery of savoury masterpieces.
Horst transcends the ordinary spice rack, turning it into a vibrant paint palette. He paints with herbs and spices, using colourful ingredients such as turmeric, paprika, chili, and saffron. The canvas is prepared with a rich red wine reduction, framed elegantly with timber from old French oak barrels.
Some of Horst's artwork is displayed on unconventional surfaces like old baking trays, which become unique canvases for his food and wine art. Using a pastry brush dipped in wine, he swirls through a palette of mixed herbs and spices, creating intricate images on the red wine-stained canvas.
Each piece is framed with timber from old French oak wine barrels, adding to the uniqueness of Horst's creations. These culinary masterpieces take on a life of their own, filling the air with delightful aromas that dance in tune with the wine, harmonizing heaven and earth within the frame of French oak barrels.
The philosophy behind these pictures is mostly harmonious, though sometimes wild. The metaphor of a "sharp picture" gains new meaning when painted with black pepper or chili.
"These paintings are unforgettable. Though they cannot be consumed, they are designed for the pleasure of the eyes," says Horst. His pictures with "flavor" are created for fun, yet they exude style and heart, truly becoming works of culinary art.
You are invited to savor these "pictures with taste" and store them in the gallery of your happy memories.
